Speculation

A long time ago a friend of mine had a theory of the heart, and since all of us have our ideas, I'd love to hear who you think it is.

One theory: My friend had wondered before if the heart was Lavi (more or less hidden by the patch in his eye, as well as with the name changes and hidden identity.

Another theory: That it's Allen, especially as it seems Mana has taken a dormant residence in him, somewhat.

Another: Lenalee~~~~~

Another (which would piss everyone in the series off but delight most fans): Cross. I think it'd be hysterical if it was him just as he'd be the last person anyone would WANT to be the heart.

And an idea I had for a long time about who the heart is: Komui.
Komui knows far more about the war than he lets on. He has the extremely close bond with Lenalee, who's so powerful. He'd be someone very unexpected as he's not an exorcist. Also, with the science department, he'd be able to "create" a fake heart if need be as certainly it seems that "the heart" knows "who he is".

So... ideas?

This might just be because I have gone insane waiting for Kanda's backstory, but I think there could be some reason for Kanda to be heart.

First, his currently still non-existent backstory. Heck, even Lavi has more history to him than Kanda, who's like the last major character to have any of his history revealed to us. The only thing we know about Kanda is he has a tattoo over his heart that's connected to his hourglass lotus that's connected to his lifespan, and he has to find "that person" before he can die. There's still much to speculate about Kanda, and so a likelyhood that he might be the Heart.

Also, if we take the Earl's words to mean that the Heart recently awakened, well, not too long ago, Kanda's tattoo evolved/changed. Considering that Mugen draws on Kanda's lifeforce with the Third Illusion, and the tattoo is connected to his lifeforce...? Okay, maybe I'm confusing myself here.

But this leads me to wonder if the Heart Innocence has to be all that "good". In the sense that while the word "heart" seems to symbolise love, compassion, protection etc... We have come across instances were the Innocence acts on its own, such as Allen's case (killing Mana), Krory's case (when he was still thought to be a vampire) and you could even say Suman's case (turned into a Togaochi), and they aren't always for the good of the Exorcist. Innocence isn't all that "innocent". While all the examples have been parasite types so far, the Heart Innocence, being special, might not even need to be a parasite type to... exert influene over the exorcist controlling it.

Turning this back to Kanda, the fact that Mugen is able to draw on Kanda's lifeforce to gain more power seems to suggest even stronger that the Innocence will do whatever it takes to defeat Akuma/Noah or to survive. Kanda, with his "I cannot die until I find 'that person'." attitude, can make a prime choice for the Heart to choose, because his will to win and to survive is just that great. I don't think it's been explicitly said that if an exorcist dies, his Innocence will be destroyed too. In Suman's case, while he was dead, Tyki still had to crush his Innocence before it was gone. So even if Mugen is the Heart, while the collapsing Ark might've killed Kanda or something to that effect, it doesn't mean that the Heart will be destroyed and render the other's Innocence to be useless. Hence, the possiblity that Mugen can be the Heart.

Like what some people have said for Lavi, Kanda might not have discovered all of Mugen's capabilities yet. Mugen = Six Illusions, suggesting that there might be 3 more illusions for Kanda to learn. Also, Mugen is kind of a play on "Infinity" if written in different kanji. The Heart is supposed to survive til the end for the best possible scenario, so could the word-play be a hint? On another note, if the Heart also symbolises protection, sometimes, sacrifices have to be made in order to be able to protect someone, and hence the drawing of Kanda's life to increase his abilities might be one way of suggesting that Kanda could be the Heart.

Now, that was long, but hopefully somewhat logical. ^^" Truthfully, as long as it's not Allen who's the Heart but any other exorcist, I can live with it. Having Allen as the heart screams over-overkill.
