This a D.Grayman that I've based on our RP site of it. Current storyline involves that Kanda and Lavi are the only ones left from the canon Black Order Members. The Heart and the Earl are both on the move but when finally, they find the Heart (along with the other original characters) it wasn't what they expected. The Heart had turned into a person and as it held the face of Allen Walker, it was their worst nightmare. A fight was dealt between Kanda and Lavi vs the Heart.
Kanda had pushed himself to the limit (as we made Mugen into a parasitic timed Innocence), but he did not die in the battle. His final request before the last of his breath took him was for the Heart to join them. Perhaps, something moved the Heart and it finally agreed. They returned to the inn to rest for the night, they would be returning to Europe tomorrow. But fate was not sweet, taking the life of Kanda Yuu by morning.
This is Lavi's thoughts about it. The moment they return to HQ, his heart was burdened.
By the loss of Kanda Yuu...His bestfriend.
The air within the stone walls was tense. People seemed restless, especially those who knew Allen Walker. Since their return, everything seemed so unreal for a few moments. Here he was, the Heart in all its full glory as it bared the face of Allen Walker. Sure, he looked like their dear friend but he was nothing like Allen. This being, Rue, was rude and loud with manners that didn't seem to exist elsewhere.
He wasn't Allen.
And he wasn't the Heart that they had all hoped to find.
Lavi shifted in his chair, tapping the gold medals on his uniform. He was in his room, a library of some sort. A large window settled behind his desk as he let his hand fall back onto his sides. It seemed so strange, just a few years ago he was the one drabbed in silver. But here was, clad in gold with people about calling him 'General'. He gave a soft chuckle as he remembered the days when they would chase Cross Marian half-way across the world. It was a pain back then.
"Yuu did the same thing didn't he?" The red-haired man murmured as he stood up. His eyes glanced on the table where four Innocence fragments shone under the sunlight that poured into his room. These were the Innocence of Cross Marian, Noise Marie, General Tiedoll and...
"Mugen."
He reached a gloved hand for the Innocence, letting it play about on his palm. He could feel his chest hurt as though wires coiled it whenever he remembered it.
Just a few days ago...Yuu was still alive with them, living with them within the walls of HQ. Duty or not, Yuu had given everything up just so the Heart would come back with him here.
Even if that meant that Yuu, himself, was never going to set foot in HQ ever again. Lavi sat down on his chair, back facing the window as he held Mugen.
"I'm such an idiot aren't I, Yuu?" Lavi mused out loud as he watched the green item. For a moment things fell silent and he could feel the quietness of the room threaten to drive him mad.
It was his fault right? Why was he the only one left then?!
"Dammit!" The Bookman cursed, throwing his head back, a hand flying to cover his face. Mugen flew from his grasps as he did so, tossing until it fell behind him. Lavi gritted his teeth, knowing well as Bookman he wasn't allowed to have attachments.
"Yuu...I'm sorry. I really am." He called out, biting his lip.
"...Can't you even keep quiet for a moment, Lavi?" An irritated voice retorted. "Or has the years finally gotten to you bastard?"
The red-haired man's heart stopped for a minute, his eyes widening hidden in the palm of his hand. "Yuu...I---"
"Fucker. Che. We're Exorcists. Don't let my death bring you down! Or are you that unreliable already?"
"Easy for you to say, Yuu." Lavi shouted back, keeping his eyes covered. "You're not the one back in HQ who has to explain to everyone what had happened!"
It was silent for a moment but Lavi refused to cry. He had cried enough, far too much for Yuu.
"You're such a bastard of a bestfriend, Yuu."
"I've never said I was 'bestfriends' with you, Lavi. Don't think too highly of yourself. Should I drive Mugen through you then? Just so you would stop this nonsense." The voice hissed.
He let out a laugh then. "Really, Yuu. I think I may grown immune to your attacks already. Besides, it was such great pleasure to burn your body. A sort of pay-back for everything right?" Lavi continued on, hiding the hurt in his voice.
"Shut up. You're being just like moyashi."
...
"Are they doing alright, Yuu? Everyone?" Bookman softly asked.
A brief silence until the voice responded.
"...Yeah."
A small smile crept on the man's face. "I'm glad then. At least, you guys finally get the rest you deserve."
"i did not choose to rest at an early age, fucktard."
"I know. I know." Lavi replied. "But you did, so sit back and relax, Yuu. Leave everything else to me."
"Don't tell me what to do."
"Take it...As a request from a friend."
"...."
"Hear me out, Yuu. I won't die just yet. So tell everyone, to wait a bit more." Lavi mused loudly, smiling widely. "And the moment I get there...I'm going to kick your ass so hard."
"Hmph." The voice said in an amused manner. "Let's see you try, Lavi."
"Like I said...Stop worrying, Yuu---"
Lavi finally turned and smiled at the Innocence fragment that lay still on the carpeted floor.
"I won't let you down. So rest now. I'll tell you everything."
When we all finally get together and get a cup of coffee with everyone laughing by our sides.
