As human beings we all want to do the right thing. We wage wars to preserve our freedom, build cities to establish centers of peace, study to obtain knowledge, and raise our children in hopes that they might someday carve a brighter future for themselves out of the ashes of the past. Sometimes, in our quest for goodness, things go wrong. We are only human, after all. All humans make mistakes. But all mistakes have consequences. At the dawn of the new and terrible age, the city's most brilliant royal scholars came together to perform an Experiment. No one was quite sure what they hoped to achieve, but all were certain that if the Experiment proved successful then their kingdom would finally possess the ultimate weapon, a key to their eternal prosperity and triumph. But before the Experiment could be completed, something went wrong - an error in calculation, perhaps. The result of man's blindness in the face of success and greatness. By the end of the Calamity, the city had suffered severe collateral damage. You are that collateral damage.
