Suggestions wanted!
In a sudden fit of madness, I tried to CG Lavi in a realistic style despite having never tried before, argh. That didn't fail too horribly aside from Lavi looking more like a androgynous female cosplayer than anything *headdesks*, but the problem was... well, the background. The lack of it, rather.
See for yourself the horror that is the backgroundless Lavi-pic of DOOOOOM. (Perfectly worksafe apart from the LOL-age that is the un-background)
Suggestions? Thanks in advance!

I love everything, the colors, the pose, the little details! Lavi looks like a final fantasy character only way prettier! ♥
And un-background is awesome xD

Or if you want a more elaborate and/or possibly easier background, then possible a field + what nature calls (those bushes/thin pointed trees... I don't have a visual at the moment nor does my words even comprehend closely to what I envision) slightly in view and have the sky take up most of the background. Mmm... I think I'm imagining this while thinking about Monet's works or Van Gogh.. though without the movements. What I basically am saying overall is to insert a simple landscape behind Lavi. To me, it seems like it would fit~
Sorry for lack of creative ideas... x__x;

If all else fails, I could go with the sky + nature et al. It was actually the first thing I thought of too, when I'd finished colouring Lavi - and another friend also suggested the same. I wonder what it is about Lavi that suggests 'sky'? XDD

You're very welcome~! =)
I think some of the nature/sky themes tend to get associated with Lavi because of his seemingly fleeting personality. He has a distinct personality, but he has been fleeting for some long that it makes him appear to have a fleeting look. I'm not sure how I should put it, but I hope you get the idea. Oh, and one card (anime based) has him appearing in such of a environment, except it spans a bit further with a cityscape as his wardrobe in the image is urban-like. ^^;
If you want, I can upload it later through my photobucket haha~ or possibly find it.. *searches*
The picture I described is one of the inspirations that ascertained the alternative suggestion ~

It's kinda sad... nobody really knows Lavi's true personality, really. I doubt he's had a real friend his age for long. Makes me wonder about his background - doesn't he have parents/family?
Cityscape, ooo... I'd love to see this card, if it's not too much trouble to link me to it! ♥

It is sad... but according to his profile, he threw away his former identity (and 48 other ones LOL) so for the time being, he is "Lavi."
But... I cannot help but wonder about his "true roots" and how he came to be. Not everything needs to be shown.. but at least little key points enough to drive plenty of discussions.
Here is the image of the card (http://i10.photobucket.com/albums/a119/Asashikka/dgrayman/ACard-LaviCityscape.jpg). I'm so sorry that it's tiny.. but I liked it to the point I saved the "SAMPLE" LOL.
I'll go and search for a better, bigger, and non-watermarked scan. 8D;

That's probably true... *has been guilty of jumping on bandwagons* I'm not in any Reborn LJ comms, but even on things like deviantart you see toooons of Reborn stuff. And since the art / doujin / cosplay / whatever looks so good, you just get the urge to find out about all these characters so you're in on the 'inside jokes' too!
I've wondered about that a lot. I mean, 48 personalities... if Lavi's really 18, that's more than 2 'personalities' a year! And that's if he started being a bookman from birth (which I guess not... but in that case, what sort of life did he have before he became an apprentice?) Ahhh, so many questions!
Eeee that's a really cool image! Don't apologise, haha, I should be thanking you for making me aware of it! Anime-based, did you say? (I'm trying to think which point in the anime this could have been - I know it's probably not directly taken from the anime, but still... ^__^)

I'm kind of impressed that Lavi can pull off so many personalities yet somehow relinquish previous ties. I wonder.. will his "previous" identity get back at him someday with someone who witnessed his personality swap/change in the past? Indeed.. there are so many questions. >__<;
The anime-based franchise of D.Gray-man somehow manages to churn out a lot of images where the cast (including Noah and arc-specific characters at times) are dressed in various outfits and fitted in different settings not typical that typical of the manga setting (such as the one I linked to you). I don't know.. but compared to other series, this one likes to make up a lot of alternative scenarios/settings beyond the restraint of the war and Order. It basically sets itself up as excellent fanfic themes~
I believe that's how I got sucked into Reborn. A bunch of pretty, pretty stuff came out and I remember a recommendation from a friend to follow the series. I must say that I enjoy the community a lot as much of the activity contains lots of friendly crack-filled adventures and at times some immersing discussions. Well.. for the most part, it has a ton of characters I like and end up getting giddy all over. XD
