Allen's parents?

I know they bear absolutely no significance to the plot of the series, but a fan is allowed to be curious, right?

Since no real information was given by them other than the fact they abandoned Allen simply because he was born with a deformed left arm, does anyone have any theories about them?

What they were like, what they did for a living, or if they're still alive during the current events in the chapters? Or if there was a deeper reason as to why they abandoned their (seemingly) only child?

Heck, if Allen ever thought about them, would he even bother tracking them down?

Fanfiction, fanart, whatever. I'll take anything.

Y HELLO THAR

I have made a ridiculously long meta post about Allen's origins/parentage/upbringing (http://vikki.livejournal.com/264377.html), which I believe may be relevant to your interests! =D It has spoilers through chapter 163 of the manga, though. >_>;;

But basically, my theory about Allen's parentage is pretty boring. Given that this would have been England in the 1880's, I suspect they were peasants, Allen was probably like their sixth kid, and then he was born with a deformed hand and they were like yeaaaaaaaah we do not have the resources to raise a child with a deformed hand LET'S GIVE HIM TO THE CHURCH. And then there was orphanage times. I don't think Allen's physical parentage is going to factor into the series in any important way, but as of now, with Allen being very much 'normal kid who had a lot of bad shit mojoed onto him', I'd say it's downright likely his parentage is boring and normal. ^^;;

If I'm understanding the nature of Innocence correctly, the deformed hand wouldn't be hereditary (and if it was, I think it would be less likely that Allen was abandoned over it). Allen is a Chosen One; the Innocence attached itself to his body rather than to a tool, and (from what I understand) bloodlines have nothing to do with it.

There's been a few interpretations of Allen's Innocence over the years, but the two I like the best are:

(1)His arm would have been normal, but when the Innocence chose him (before birth, I'm assuming), the very act of being buried in the back of his hand literally burn-scarred him all the way to the shoulder.

(2)His actual deformity is lacking an arm, but the Innocence attatched itself in such a way that it became Allen's arm.

Allen fascinates me a lot so I could probably ramble about this for forever, orz. Hope this helps!

not sure how proud I should be of my obsessive love ahaha

I got into this fandom in 2005, cosplayed Allen Walker for five years, and wrote ridiculous amounts of fic for him. XD;;; I'm actually woefully unfamiliar with half of what goes on because I've forgotten so much of the manga but I definitely have wasted too many of the hours of my life thinking about Allen. XD;;

The premade costumes are getting really good, I'm noticing. I made all my costumes from scratch, but I have to say the professional ones are def. affordable and if you can do some modifications yourself, it would probably be a fantastic costume!

In fact, I'm curious about Miranda's family, too. >_> I know the manga and anime have some background on her, but nothing on her parents. I read in someone's RP journal that they died...

I gotta be honest, I don't remember. She's older (in her mid-twenties, I think?) so it would be a little less traumatizing to assume her parents have passed away. Best information on Miranda is in manga volume 3, so I guess when I get home (I'm snowed in at a friend's house, haha!), I'll have to pull that out and take a look!

some places have her age listed as 26 (I don't know why!)

That might be because that's the age she currently is in the manga. It was mentioned in chapter 170. (http://www.onemanga.com/D.Gray-Man/170/09/).

Ignore me, just popping in here

Welcome! XD PhoenixStarr44, right? :D

And your CC Alpha is my favourite from your stash of Allen cosplays. I think I feel in love with the fur and the boots and the claw... *is a dork* What did you make your claw out of?

Also, the bickering pictures of you and Yuu-chan put a big smile on my face XD

Okay, I'm going to stop being a creepy-ass stalker-like person now *shot*

[identity profile] vikki.livejournal.com 2009-12-20 06:46 pm (UTC)(link)
Yep! Cosplay.com got too complicated from me so I don't post there much any more (it's hard to keep up more than one cosplay website orz), but that's my handle there.

Oh, Crown Clown Alpha? Thank you very much. =D The claw is made out of a costume/prom glove. I used chicken wire to create the base shape of the claws, then coated them with Model Magic. It's really quite simple.

I love that shot of us glaring at each other. somewhere there's a stash of pics of us pretending to punch each other, etc etc, but we took those pics years ago and I'd have to find them again. ^^;

I'm glad you like my cosplay! Allen seriously has been a great pleasure to wear for so very long.
