Hi, I'm new to the D Gray Man fandom and am currently about three quarters of the way through the anime and enjoying it a lot.

I've been wanting to read some fanfic for the series but given the amount that is out there I was hoping that you lovely people could recommend some of your favourites or must reads? I prefer slash but any recs would be welcomed. Thanks!

Artbug is mostly pairingless aside from "Komui" (which is both slash and not? hard to explain) but manages amazing squick despite that. His stuff makes me "D: WTF" but keep reading a lot. Reunion made me very happy (after I stopped crying).

Ah, okay! I don't really read Kanda stuff, haha, but I do know of:

three AM (http://www.fanfiction.net/s/4584082/1/three_AM), amazingly funny fic, Kanda/Lavi.

The works of su_dama or, at ff.net, smokingace (http://www.fanfiction.net/u/430371/smokingace). Very different and interesting writing style, and I do adore her OT3 fic Three Blind Mice (http://www.fanfiction.net/s/4557576/1/Three_Blind_Mice).

Anything by metisket is worth a read *g* Her gen fics and pairing fics are wonderful. For Allen/Kanda in particular, you might want to check out her Hard Living (Part 1 (http://metisket.livejournal.com/13182.html#cutid1), Part 2 (http://metisket.livejournal.com/13387.html#cutid1)). Moving Forward (http://metisket.livejournal.com/2701.html#cutid1) is a beautiful examination of Allen, Kanda, Lavi and Lenalee, post-war (:

(Damn it, I was gonna suggest su_dama) Make sure you read her AU High School series. ALL of them!

There is also tami3 (http://www.fanfiction.net/~tami3). She writes mostly angst, with deep and well thought-out ideas. What few I've read of her stories are BRILLIANT.

Another amazing author is Pub-Ashbless (http://www.fanfiction.net/u/1847689/Pup-Ashbless). She has a lot of different kinds of stories, from long ones to short ones, from character analyzis to relationships of different kinds.

A major LavixKanda writer is kuro666 (http://www.fanfiction.net/~kuro666), although she's getting out of the fandom. She's working on a last fic, though, and I believe she's finishing up started ones?

Another one is hearmelaugh (http://www.fanfiction.net/~hearmelaugh), or mugen_edamame on LJ.

Morphine Dementia (http://www.fanfiction.net/u/1452212/Morphine_Dementia) (dementiamorphea) also has a lot of LaviKanda fics.

A bit different, but the story archived at allenmustdie is a good one. It's quite intensive, pretty dark but it's beautifully written.

Also, sutlers is a god. She has her fic archive on her profile page and is predominantly Kanda/Allen.

I second anything by sutlers metisket and miko_no_da. Hands down some of the best fic writers in this fandom, most (if not all) of their fics have Kanda. I'm starting to realize I'm extremely picky in what I term 'good' fics, cause I don't agree with half the recs here, but I second those three writers in a heartbeat. :)

Reading the manga first is really the correct way to go... Anime didn't pull off some things as well as the manga did. And in some points the anime murdered the characters. I watched the anime first, and it doesn't really bother me, but I know of someone who says that she sometimes needs to ignore some things the anime made her believe that's not correct in the manga.

Or something.

My only complaint is the anime ends really suddenly after 103 episodes. .__.

I dunno what Hoshino thinks of that but I would want to see a continuation of it, to cover more of the manga.

Indulgence (http://www.fanfiction.net/s/5591270/1/) - Unresolved Sexual Tension between Kanda and Allen gets resolved. Very, very hotly. Oh and it's slightly heart wrenching.
