question: location of the Black Order HQ

Hiya, everyone.

Brand new fan here. I got done watching the anime yesterday and going from there I'm about to write fic.

And hit a snag I'm not willing to ignore, so I'll have to ask. (I did check previous discussions and questions, but couldn't find it mentioned yet.)

So, I'd like to ask if it is ever mentioned or it is known where the Black Order headquarters is. I've seen someone say it's in France, but they didn't seem sure, so I was wondering if I could get confirmation for that. And also for Central Administration being in the Vatican?

Help with this would be much appreciated.

Thank you. ^_^

I might be misunderstanding....

There are different branches (ie: Asia, America). But the familiar oHQ, I can't seem to remember? Italy? ><

Current HQ, 2nd, is in London (after lv 4 attack).

France-somewhere-near-Paris gets mentioned as the location of HQ because in the anime filler about Lenalee's day off, the Eiffel Tower is all over those shots of the town. There's also the Alfons Mucha print in the first opening I guess, but that's *really* circumstantial evidence. Any evidence from the fillers is dodgy IMHO.

The manga, I don't think it says. Allen starts out in London, this we know for sure, so I always assumed first headquarters was also around there somewhere. But the chapter after that, he's still on his way and runs into a kid named Jean, so I suppose that's where the animators got the France thing from? Pretty tenuous if you ask me.

In fics I've seen England, Scotland, France, as well as delicately-dancing-around-the-issue. Fell free to pick and chose, as long as it's not too outlandish I don't think your readers will mind.

That's the spirit!

Yay for new fans :D

It never says in the manga. I only watched maybe half of the anime, so I don't remember the French references. I think it's safe to assume it's somewhere in Europe, but other than that? They never really say. Like mentioned above, you can use the anime's hint if you want to, but really, do whatever you like! One benefits of having location vagueness :D

Central I would assume is in the Vatican, but then again, it might be in some secret volcano lair.

tbh would most definitely not use the anime as canon basis for geography. I was always under the impression that both the headquarters before and after the move were located in England.

Mainly because Allen is not shown in the preceeding chapters to move from another country. In the first chapters the style of housing is Tudor - quintessentially English. I am talking about the third or so chapter in to the manga when he's walking along the streets with Jean? John? I can't remember the kids name. But the tall white buildings with the black patterned woodwork? English. 150% sure. I encounter that style all the time in England. It's not a French style and so I'd rule that out entirely.

A weaker suggestion would also point to the entire cast conversing in English. During the period in which Hoshino sets her story English is a world language alongside French. Though I don't think Hoshino has looked that far in to it, or else I don't think she'd have set her catholic-themed tale in a Protestant country.

But anyway. Pretty positive it's set in England. The anime has French references but it also butchered Kanda's backstory and changed a lot of the character's personality and I would under no circumstances view it as canon evidence for them being in France.

...Having typed all that I looked at the back of my DGM volumes where the first line reads "set in a fictional 19th century England". So yeah, I was right, HQ is definitely in England.

Hello :) For some reason I remember the old HQ as being somewhere in the North of England. I don't have the Fanbook at hand so I can't check it now but maybe it has some information inside?

Also, welcome to fandom ♥

original old HQ is in England...think it was London....dunno why there's an eiffel tower near there, but I'm pretty sure that it was mentioned somewhere in the very beginnign that Allen had to go to London/England to find the BOHQ...and then there's one in china....and another in north america....not really sure where in north america though...cause they all traveled via gate at that time...

Oh no, I understand. Hoshino loves to use the entire world so it can be on one hand liberating, but on the other kind of frustrating at times. Especially if you're like me and need every OCD detail.

Did it? It's been so long since I've read those chapters I can't remember, but that sounds right. I remember them mentioning orders from the Pope and such, but the details I'm hazy on.

Well, good luck with your fic! May I ask what you're writing? *nosy*

hnnnnngh I like the sound of this.

Oh Cross, I love him too much. I will totally read this, I hope you post it to the community here.

omg dude no way, fangirl away PLEASE, he's the only reason I'm still in this fandom or read DGM. THERE IS ONLY CROSS... AND SOME OTHER CHARACTERS WHICH MAKE APPEARANCES.

Haha! That's awesome. I liked the anime, especially near the end. I skipped some of the filler and was upset that there was so much (and that it ended in the BEST arc of the manga), but I really miss it.

I think after Cross I love Tyki and Komui especially for Leecest angst the most. And Allen, which is strange because usually I grow to hate the main characters. But I love everyone.

There was a lot of filler in the anime, I think around like 20-30 episodes? Something crazy like that. Oh you should read the manga definitely, I won't spoil you, but yes :D I have a love hate relationship with it from all the hiatuses and now the monthly release thing. The story has dropped a bit in quality too IMO, but I have hope it will pick back up.

Heeee, it seems Tyki is a popular character he's slashed with. Komui too, although Komui lacks the bish factor to make it a pretty pair.

I can't either, but the fangirls seem to love it XD

It gets more confusing, especially since Cross is a lying liar who lies; but my only acceptable theory is Cross is really God and will be the end boss, bitch slap the universe and hit the reset button, looking damn sexy while doing it... More likely of course, at the very least, he's more of a Xanatos than the Earl. Only time will tell!

His pimp coat and hat hold the key to the divine, I knows it!

lol he so is. Cross is a very fic-fun character. I love writing him.

Muha, if you don't make them suffer than you don't really love them XD

I believe both of the "main HQ's were in England. I know the second one is definitely supposed to be in London (unless I'm totally remembering things wrong). I'm not sure the first one was listed as an exact location, but in my head I have decided it is Norwich.

[identity profile] timcanpy-sensei.livejournal.com 2010-10-21 10:09 pm (UTC)(link)
Wow, I always thought it was a common knowledge that the Order's location(both of them) was set firmly in England(set in a fictional 19th century England/English being the Order's default language) but this topic has really made me wtf are how unsure a lot of fans are.

The first one is in England and the Anime is just messing with us(not sure why Hoshino didn't put her foot down about that...) with all the Paris references.

1st of all, Allen starts out in INDIA. 2nd the kid's name is JAN, not Jean.
