question about the spells
really simple, just wondering if anyone can tell me what country/mysticism they (supposedly)come from. specifically the ones Cross does.

For a less detailed research study some bits about said stuff (European medival magic). Summaries of this is to be found in any university libary.
Considering Hebraska's siglum I am tempted to hint you on John Dee, but then again... Japanese people and itty nitty details about European history not even many eurppeans are aware of...
Do some basic reearch on European magic in medival times and how it transferred to Marian's times (I recommend the "Book of Lambspring") and I think you'll be fine. (yes I study that stuff.)

(then again... Cross' phrases in that sense and context never came across me during my studies... probably Hoshino looked up a bit and then run away with the wikipedia knowledge she got. ^^°)

Medival magic had - among others - the principle that language and names and words are incredibly important (know one's name and have power over him. Also invocations and summons had to be performed in the right language and with the right references (analogy thinking and stuff)) One of the most effective languages was considered to be Hebrew since it was supposed to be close to the Henoch - while German, Italian, French, English, whatnotever were considered weak languages. Maybe Marian found a loophole... he's been quite the traveler. Maybe he found a way to combine medival magic, alchemy and Asian teachings...
(but really. Google "John Dee" and look at his seal. And then recall hebraska. And LAUGH)
