Summary: Kanda is being an ass.
“What do you want?!”
His eyes hadn’t opened. He hadn’t even turned around, though he knew she was behind him. He could feel her uncertain steps inching nearer.
“I...uh...”
She had stopped moving. Her hands found one another in a fury of nerves and were now clasped tightly together. Her mind was blank.
“You’re ruining my focus, Lenalee.”
A tiny gasp escaped the surprised Exorcist’s lips.
“How... did you know it was me?”
“It’s not hard to tell when you’re around. Especially with those boots on.”
She glared at her Innocence with all the spite she could muster.
“Now, what do you want? Or are you just going to stand there all day?” He was getting annoyed.
“I... I just came to see... if you were okay. You’ve been coming up here... alone. I just don’t see why you want to be up here on the roof anyway. It’s so cold!”
“I like the cold.”
Lenalee was frustrated now.
“You’ve got bandages everywhere! I really don’t think you should be out here, Kanda!”
She walked over to where he was sitting and sat down. He was taken aback at how concerned she looked.
“Lenalee... you don’t have to worry about me. I’m fine.” His voice was lacking the harsh quality it had had only moments ago.
“But... I do worry about you! You don’t talk to me. You don’t talk to anyone. You’ve built up a wall, and all I want to do right now is knock it down! Don’t be so tough. Please... tell me what’s bothering you!”
Now it was Kanda’s turn to be speechless. He furrowed his brow and looked away.
“I don’t get why you care so much.”
She wheeled him around. They were face to face now.
“Because... Kanda... you are so important to me! I just-”
She was cut off by his lips on hers. Too soon, he pulled away.
“You’re important to me, too.”
He was up and gone in a flash. Out of her sight, Kanda watched her in silent longing. He wasn’t done with her just yet.
Lenalee knew he'd be back. Kanda wasn't a quitter. She laid back and grinned.
“Live in the moment, I suppose.”
