The mangaka gives him blueish eyes most of the time, but in a few pictures I think she's given him grey or black eyes. In the anime I think they were a greyish brown color. Though, the Japanese have very dark brown eyes, and on some individuals they appear to be black. So if Kanda was real, they'd probably look black or very close to it. Though it's a manga and anime, and the Japanese seem to love giving their anime and manga characters eye colors that aren't typical of their ethnicity (or species sometimes O_o). I still can't get over the fact that Sailor Moon, who looks like an Ayran Barbie Doll, is supposed to be a typical Japanese girl...and you wonder why Japanese girls aren't happy with how they look. =D

Furthermore, sometimes character's hair, eye, and overall color scheme for their character design can be altered to fit the color scheme of whaterever illustration they are in. For example, there is a very warm color scheme in http://www.onemanga.com/D.Gray-Man/156/02-03/ , and Kanda has greyish black hair and black eyes instead of bluish, because blue hair and eyes wouldn't work in the color scheme since it is a strong cool color. LenaLee (who hardly ever looks Chinese =_+) is given a warm purple hair and eyes to further prevent taking away from the color scheme, because she could have green hair and eyes which is also too cool of a color to use in this picture. Am I making any senese? Though I'm an Art Studio major, and this is just my take on one of the reasons for constantly changing hair and eye colors of characters in manga and somtimes anime illustrations. ^_^;
