Character Chemistry

No this is not a romance thing (unless you want it to be?). I was just thinking last night about the characters and how they react to others and I wanted to know what character(s) (it doesn't even have to be one you like much) have your most favorite/dynamic relationships to others?

For me...

Allen is a pretty good one. Maybe my most favorite out of them all. He can be nice a lot of the time so it's interesting to see who is capable of making him blow up and why (Kanda, Cross anyone). He's manipulative here and there so it's fun (and sometimes rather sad) to see him making other people see a certain image of him just to surprise them with turning a 180 the next time. Or even in the case of Miranda knowing how to work her into being more willing to work with them with knowing what to say to appeal to her. He's also one of those characters that you could even call a living prayer of sorts in that dark world of his. He's far from saved from his darkness (internal or external) himself, but it's not just with the akuma, the things he first desires to save most, but intentionaly or not he ends up helping the spirits of others like in the ways of Krory or Miranda who had given up before he helped them. He makes people think differently without trying, usually this is a given for most shounen leads, but in the case of Allen I actually know why I care so much more about it. Maybe it's because he truly does love you and at the same time it's not so simple as a speech of "I know how you feel" because Allen doesn't want people to know that he can also be not fine. I can't really fully explain why I like his saving people more then other shounen leads? It's just interesting how people react to Allen's so different way be it with fondess, admiration, expectatiat much on, or hate/fear/disaproval. His methods and way of thinking are so different from everybody else, that it sets people off in ways I'm curious to see about in the future more. His Father complex also interests me a lot since I'm wondering if in the end his deep hold on Mana will be his salvation or his end.

Tykki is another. He's got a interesting blend of okay guy mixed with his own sense of sadism. He loves humans and yet he also loves killing them. He seems to genuinely care about his human friends when he's not a noah, but I get the sense he would truly kill them if he was ordered to do so. He doesn't seems fond of some of his individual family members much at all (in the I'd rather be somewhere else then with you kind of way) with the exception of perhaps Road who he seems to actually like along with care more then just being noahs considering how much time they seem to spend together I suppose. He's not someone who hates easily despite his taunts. But he also seems interested in a enemy like Allen (the kid's everywhere, so it's kind of hard not to mention him) in that while yes he is more then willing to kill him, he also seems to actually be fascinated and even still carries the boy's button around for reasons I'm still unsure of (maybe he's just waiting to give it to Ease or something else?). He also seems to be the favorite of the Earl for reasons that seem important enough. I'm pretty interested in where his bond to the noah family, The Earl, and his human side will lead him. I'm particulary interested if his friends, more notable Ease will come back so we can see more of is reactions to them (isn't he suppose to be Ease's guardian?)

I wanted to say Road before, but I realised her major relationships are shown a lot seem to be to Tykki and Allen while only others are starting to show up possibly more. She still is pretty interesting with her balance of sadism and adoring loyalty to those around her. Her family is possibly the most important thing to her, though she cares about some more then others (like Tykki for example who seems very important to her). She even seemed to know the 14th perhaps though her relationship to him is a mystery so far other then she seemed sad in a quiet way about his betrayal. She hates humans and cares nothing for akuma in a "their just here to entertain me" sort of way, though there may be deeper meanings she's not letting on yet. She likes the Earl but also has a crush on Allen who's depth of feelings for are a mystery in how legit she feels for him the way she proclaims. Overall I'm interseted in finding out how she reacts to others as things go on when we find out more about her.

There are others, perhaps even with chemistry I like more, but these three were the ones who came up first.

I've fallen mostly out of love with DGM over the past several months, partially because of the overly long hiatuses and partially because the most recent storyline just hasn't snagged me, but this right here hits right at the heart of why I was so intrigued to begin with. I love almost all the characters in DGM, but Allen, Tykki, and Road in particular are the ones that draw me in and fascinate me, both by themselves and in their interactions together.

I love Allen as a hero because he's so very humble about it and he's got so very, very many issues. It's implied that his childhood before Mana was terrible and sure, many heroes come from similarly broken homes or were abused and so on, but Allen doesn't dwell on that, doesn't ever get emo or whiny about his past. It's a part of him, he's not repressing it, but neither does it change his usually sunny outlook on life. He's seen the practically worst the world has to offer (because a kid alone during that time period, one who had to have been tops six or eight when he was adopted, had to have suffered some terrible experiences) but he's still driven to save people. It's practically in his blood. And the mystery surrounding Mana and the 14th and Allen's own heritage is all just a cherry on top.

Tyki and Road both fascinate me as well, if for different reasons. There are so many little mysteries going on there and they're both such wonderfully charismatic individuals that I just want to know more and more about them. Plus there's the relationship that they share which reminds me so much of a teasing sibling one, and given that they're supposed to be on the "evil" side, it's always refreshing to have that sort of positive bond in full view. There's not just loyalty there, there's affection as well, and love. Road's response when she thought Tyki was dead was epic and says whole volumes on what they mean to each other.

And there's that both of them pretty much slotted Allen in as family right from the start, presumably before either of them knew anything about the 14th. There was an instant connection between Tyki and Allen in the train ride when they first met, a liking and friendship there that has flavored their interactions ever since. Tyki tortured Allen and didn't particularly seem to regret it at all, but he was more than just intrigued to hear that Allen had survived. He wasn't annoyed that his "kill" had the audacity to come back, or even irritated that the Innocence he destroyed had been reformed. He seemed to very much enjoy the forced dinner party and the fight that followed. (Well. Up until a certain point, at any rate... XD)

And Road? I think Road knows far more about Allen than she's letting on. She definitely likes him though, whether that's romantically or just in general is hard to say. That kiss could very easily have been her messing with him (and if so, it worked). We know that she thinks about Allen when he's not around, to the point where her adoptive father seems concerned about her "relationship" with him.

Between the two of them, it seems they'd both be quite happy if Allen turned out to be a Noah so that he could be brought into the fold properly. We don't really get the same reaction from the other Noahs, who seem to regard Allen with disinterest, if not outright dislike.

There's definitely a connection between Allen, Road, and Tyki and separates all three of them from their respective groups. Given the general high notes of humanity and compassion we've seen from Road and Tyki (along with the sadism and misanthropy, don't get me wrong) and the increasingly suspicious actions of the Order, it makes me wonder if we're supposed to see a schism where these three (and probably Lavi, Kanda, Miranda, Lenalee and so on) split from their original alliances and form a new party.
