DGM Photoshoot

I had two mini photoshoots with [livejournal.com profile] epiic who did a marvelous job of... well... everything... and I thought I'd share.

The Cloud Nine pictures are meant to show the emotion of what she felt when discovering her students had been killed; the Lenalee pictures started as a joke as a certain someone whose name is definitely not [livejournal.com profile] lazyartistgirl requested I borrow her Lenalee cosplay when she did Allen. However... we had a better idea and well, let's say this is the creepiest Bak you'll see.

The Klaud ones are nice! The darkness makes the atmosphere better as well.

The Bak ones are funny! I imagine someone found out what he was doing in the last picture.

Thanks for the makeup compliment. I'm the person responsible. Don't know why animalboything is making excuses about running out of time when we hadn't and the wax was planned but I do agree it could have been better. I'm still trying new things with wax so I can handle it better... definitely not the easiest product to work with.

Again thanks for the compliment. It means a lot.

Actually it was quite the opposite and I had told you I had planned to use the wax a good couple weeks before Otakon. I had planned to sculpt it ahead of time but then ended up not having the time to thus sculpting it straight on your face. It wasn't going to look as good as it could have if I had pre-sculpted it.

Not possible because trying to make a scar that detailed out of a latex prosthetic I would have had to make a mold of that area of your face and I didn't have the materials for that until right before Otakon so it wouldn't have been discussed.

Freezing this thread to prevent drama. Play nice, kids. Any issues that you have with one another can be dealt with privately. Thank you.

The pictures are all gorgeous, the Klaud ones are beautifully moody and the Bak ones are HILARIOUS.

The Cloud is AMAZING. I would love to know how you did the make-up. Lenalee and Bak aren't bad either; the situations are funny and somehow utterly... Cannon <3

I think Kanda's chest-binding needs work. In my experience I've found it's best to start at the top of the chest, under the armpits- as high as possible. This prevents any bulging (I know in this case it would cover part of the tattoo, but if the assumption is he's bandaged to cover wounds [or something similar, since we all know Kanda doesn't keep] it could work). After one or two layers on top, I find that immediately moving on to the bottom of the breasts for a few more layers before finishing in the middle helps keep everything restrained and even more square looking- like pecs. Keeping the binding as flat as possible is also really helpful.

Anyways, that's just my little criticque/attempt at helping. Feel free to disregard xD

Wax? Yeah, I can imagine that'd peel pretty badly. Where can you buy latex for that purpose, and what do you use to attach it to the face?
You certainly did a good job with that; the angles for the shots are really nice too.

Ah, okay. Could you explain that technique to me, if it's not too much trouble? I've never heard of it. (Sorry for all the questions ^^; )

XD You're welcome.

[identity profile] ladyxnoxluck.livejournal.com 2009-08-05 11:33 pm (UTC)(link)
Oh, okay! Sounds pretty easy, actually. Thanks for the info <3!

Okay o-o; I didn't mean to be the spark for so much drama.

Thank you for the makeup compliment as I'm the makeup artist responsible. As animalboything mentioned, it was constructed out of Ben Nye Nose & Scar Wax with a spirit gum base to help the wax stick, and then sculpted with clay tools. What I don't understand is her claim of it peeling considering I have done a lot of wax open wounds on myself and as long you aren't rough with it the material should stick fine... even better than latex in some cases. The other thing about wax is that it is easier to build up for the thicker scars because latex tends to need a lot of layers plus cotton to give it depth as well as latex is not as easy to sculpt. The other issue with latex is if you have an allergic reaction to it. ALWAYS check out the latex on the back of your hand for 5 minutes to make sure you don't have an adverse reaction. Peeling latex off to find a nasty rash is never fun... especially on your face.

BUT I will say that if you are doing it on yourself latex is MUCH easier to handle in the mirror and so is also quicker.

As for her claim of it being a last minute wax job, that is incorrect considering it was planned and not rushed at all. It could have been better, yes. I am still playing around with wax to learn how to sculpt it better.

Oh... and you do NOT need a bruise wheel for it at all. None of the colors in there are going to be what you need. What you DO need is a foundation a shade or two lighter than your normal shade, a shadow, and a highlight. That's it. Scars are your heeled flesh so unless they are brand new (in which they would be a light reddish tone) you just need skin tone paints.

Oh yeah! You also will want Ben Nye sealant spray. It helps the makeup against humidity, sweat, etc.

I wouldn't have had to say anything if you had given me the credit for the makeup instead of just saying thank you and acting like you did it yourself.

Credit goes where credit is due.

[identity profile] yumikoryuu.livejournal.com 2009-08-06 12:52 am (UTC)(link)
No... you said "thank you" to all of them and you didn't mention you had help at all until the 5:48pm post and you edited the 8:09pm post so I have no clue what that one said considering I was posting my comment to her.

You're not fair and kind. I didn't charge you for the makeup even through all the drama and you completely left the credit out that I did the makeup.
