It's not that her art quality is going down the hill, she's just changing styles and people apparently still aren't used to it.

Thiiiis. People complained at the Ark Arc style. People complained at the Grey Arc style. People complained at the post hiatus style. Honshio's always been one to change her style vastly, and as a result we just have to get used to new art over and over. It's a little annoying, but eh.

I did rate her down at average for the unfinished pages, though. I wonder, whatever happened to her assistants? Does she not have any anymore?

And Kanda's hair is well drawn, but it's just so... poofy. Had that been its style from early on it wouldn't have been a problem but it came out of nowhere so people are still like 'whoa what'. It looks like it's only a 5th Illusion thing, so it should go back to normal.

I've never been around in the fandom long enough to see people complaining about the previous arcs, but yeah. And I agree with you that it is a little annoying how she changes styles so much, I usually identify artists by their style in mangas and such, but hers is a bit confusing. :/

LOL, it was definitely sudden, but didn't Kanda's poofy hair start coming around some few chapters ago? I wonder why people started complaining now. >_> Or maybe I just missed a lot.

Nah, it was just this and chapter 196 somewhere towards the end that he activated the 5th Illusion and his hair went Saiyan on us, and I think some people were bringing it up then, too.

I apologize for butting in but indeed, she did forewarn us with a picture she made in one of the recent chapters (I think this one (http://i308.photobucket.com/albums/kk352/riot_of_flowers/DGrayMan/moe2012009720sample.jpg) was featured near chapter 190, wasn't it?).

It seems that to Hoshino having a wavy hair/perm equals to super powers like blonde hair equals to over 9000 to Dragno Ball Z. First Allen gets some wavy hair as the 14th and goes all badass, now it's Kanda's turn, is Lavi going to have to get a perm to be featured then?

I forgot about that picture. :|a But I think that was just a stylistic choice, since Hoshino edits character appearances for side art all the time.

Lavi did have fluffy hair in the beginning, and Lena's new style does seem fuller. We may be on to something here.

Obviously the key to winning the war is hair!

Indeed she does, but I think it was posted before the whole "Let's make a reunion /Sephiroth" started, like a warning, this chapters will contain perms and fluffy cats tails attached to pissed off characters' heads.

Ah, I recall that at TV troopes there are troops for the hair, one of them about pulling it down to be more badass and powerful like that red haired guy from Bleach.

Tropes, not troops, and the one you're referring to is "Slipknot Ponytail." Kanda's already done it a couple times, notably back in the Ark.

I just took it as a given that the artwork for images like that differed from the actually series...but we can still tell that that's Kanda and that's Allen...well, Allen looks more 14th than Allen-Allen, but that's probably cause of thta taking over thing or something....besides, Kanda's hair in that pic isn't going ballisticly poofy and monstrous-like-with-a-brain like it is in the most recent chapter....@_@

I agree--the style's not poorly drawn, it's just different. From there it's a matter of taste.

I always wondered why people complained about the Ark Arc style, since it's natural for an artist's style to evolve, and this is Hoshino's first series. Personally I liked that style the best, though. I'm not a fan of the current style--I don't hate it and I'm more concerned with the storytelling.

She does have a tendency to leave in the overly sketchy panels...I'm sure she has assistants, it just seems she has difficulty with the workload necessary to meet the harsh deadlines.
