This week's chapter was released in a rather odd time. I translated as soon as I realised it was up.

The raw scans look like they've been chucked into water and boiled. The text is rather blurry, so I've translated the best I could.

Bad news: There will be no new chapter next week due to Japan's Golden Week holiday. This chapter is from a 2-week combine issue, 22/23. There is an announcement at the end of this chapter saying there will be D.Gray-man will be on hiatus from issue 24 until further notice. It isn't known if this is the decision of Hoshino-sensie or Shueisha (publisher of the Shounen Jump magazine).

Well, the common meaning of 種 is seed, and would have probably been my first choice if I didn't double check with a dictionary.

For this, the line, ハゲてない is actually spoken by Bak on page 04, which means, "I'm not bald". That was actually the answer to For's "Calm down, you baldy!" that was said in the previous page.

Yeah, it does have the same meaning, just that Artificial Apostle has a nicer ring to it.

:D But it's good try, I spend two hours crying over the katakana 'rorasuketsu' a few years ago. And worse, it's from a novel and it was only until I saw the roller skates in one of the later pages that I realise what the heck it was... D:

When I first read it, I thought it's "instant blue" or something like that (instant out of the blue? the heck?), made me think Japlish is getting more ridiculous by the chapter. Thank goodness it was just my mistake. Did anyone actually figure out what ネオギプス is? Neo gyps? What on earth even is that?

I ordered Reverse 2 a couple of weeks ago and is reading it right now ^_^ Good on you for translating.

Hehe, I bought the Chinese version of volume 1 and ordered Volume 2 as well XD I'm not really that fluent in Japanese, so I prefer to read Chinese over Japanese actually. But most of the time, I just cross-check between both ;)

Oh, Reverse 1 and 2 has been translated into Chinese? I'm not fluent in Japanese but I've read Reverse 1 and am reading Reverse 2 in Japanese anyway. Probably can understand about 90% of it without a dictionary...

In my humble opinion, translation is actually more complex than it sounds. Really need to look at what the audience wants, a more literal translation, or a more local translation (as if the characters are native English speakers).

You understand 90% of what is written without a dictionary and you still don't consider yourself fluent?! D: Gosh, I'd be cheering with joy if I can understand half the book without sticking my nose into the dictionary every other line...

Overall, I'm okay with Kanji since I have some background in Chinese, but otherwise... D: But yes, the books have been translated to Chinese sometime ago, and the translations are usually quite accurate (or at least, more loyal than the English translations).

True :) I guess the best is to have a balance between both, though that is something easier said than done. For instance, the chapter where Allen said Link is a furniture to him. In the original text, Allen actually compared him to the air and not a furniture, but it was changed in the translation as it conveys the meaning better... Still, furniture and air and hardly interchangeable :P

I looked up Neogyps on Google... Yes, it's a bird fossil. It's an "Old World Vulture", but I couldn't find a more elaborate information.

Perhaps the chapter was titled Neogyps to symbolize the 14th as a vulture looming over its prey?
...That's just plain morbid.

Oh yeah, I think "shadow" would be more fitting. Wonder why I used the term "prey"... it's too harsh :(

Maybe the original title for this chapter was rejected by her editor? I remember reading somewhere that she had her chapter title rejected by her editor before. Maybe the same thing happened again.
