Okay, so a friend of mine was watching a con panel with Greg Ayres about fansubs and he's talking to some guy about working on Death Note and at about 1:05-1:07, a guy mentions that he's "in D.Gray-man". So, I'm guessing Viz got the anime or something? Unless our hearing is off, this is leaked news. xD If so, it means they're good at keeping secrets.

Because then if it gets picked up by CN or something the fandom becomes inundated with fanbrats who think Komui really did destroy Paris with a giant mecha and Lulubell showed up several arcs early with an annoying lesbian maid.

Okay, so I'm an elitist bitch who bullied my friend who got into the series with the anime into going back and reading the manga because it's a lot less stupid. But I maintain that fandoms do only get worse when they become more mainstream.

I think it's always exciting that a beloved fandom will finally be available somewhat 'closer to home,' as I see it...but I understand the concern that it will draw people that receive it wrongly (or maybe in a different manner that we feel is wrong). Hopefully the new fans who discover the fandom via television, etc. will find that the manga is even better than what they've already enjoyed in video.

Nonetheless, I never really did get into the anime itself. I think I stopped around Episode 12~13 for lack of time or interest to watch. But I hear the episodes of late have been much improved, so I'm tempted to give into this slight motivation to finally catch up and start watching...

Oh the episodes of late have been nothing short of EPIC! Season Three is so unbelievably badass it'll make your head spin. Episodes 72-75 are probably the most amazing episodes of any anime I think I've ever seen. The filler they throw into the episodes to pad them for time actually WORK with the canon remarkably -- fights are drawn out, and a few things are clearer.

Hell, Allen's fight with the Earl after he's achieved Crown Clown (when he saves Lenalee from the Earl when she's trapped in the crystal) is actually BETTER than the manga, in my opinion, because the manga made the fight end rather abruptly. The anime draws the fight out for about five minutes or so, and you get to see that for all that he looks like a bloated doll, the Earl can still FIGHT.

If you quit around episode 13, then you only barely got to see Lavi in action. Such a pity, because he's really, really well rendered in the show, and his voice actor is AWESOME.

Also, you should watch Episode 18 ("Lenalee no Koi"). It's pure crack filler, but it is a goddamn riot -- I think it's even better than Episode 8 (which is canon humor).

Some of the filler is ridiculous (Akuma ship?!) and some of it is based on the novels (like the Person Who Sells Souls, and the Village of the Witch, or whatever) and some of it is annoying (er, I liked the interactions of the Exorcists in the whole Lulubell arc, but goddamn they sure got made into idiots by a lazy Noah and a neurotic Level Two. If you're kinda a canon purist, that arc -- eps 40 through 50 -- will be painful) There are a number of mostly-filler episodes that have some canon scenes, and the Daisya Barry episodes provided a rather intriguing glimpse into his character. I came to love Daisya because of the anime.

If you want to dive straight into the canon awesomeness, Season Three starts episode 51 (the third OP starts the next ep)

See, that was the other thing. I wasn't sure if I were to start watching again if I should jump in where I left off or begin with the good, new material. From what you've said though (and thanks so much for writing it - I read it all :3) it all sounds great!

I think I'd probably just start watching Season Three and then play catch-up in the summer or some other time.

That'll work. Watch the awesome stuff now, and then use the less-awesome stuff to tide you over in between awesome episode releases. That's kinda what I did.

Now that the Anime has gotten to Kanda's fight with Skinn Boric inside the Ark, it's full-steam-ahead to AWESOMESAUCE.

ALSO!! There are omakes starting about ep 51 or 52 at the tail end of each episode. They are almost all hilarious (except the one commemorating Suman Dark; it's not meant to be funny). One of my favorites is when the cast play cards (http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=trVbHYUCZdA&feature=related) (most of the omakes aren't that long, most are about ten seconds long, but the longer ones are great too.)

I agree with you on this, I'm sure many don't want fanbrats like that in the fandom. Plus it would get annoying if you randomly heard something like that at school or in the middle of the street.
