Former events and recent events discussion

It is pretty much obvious that D.Gray-Man's manga is reaching its end, especially taking in consideration what has taken place in the latest chapter and all the jazz that has been played so far.

Well, today, after overdosing myself with ice-cream to lose coherence to make some indecent fanfiction, I recalled a few things that took place long ago in the manga and tried to sort out some things of the recent chapter.

I recall that at some point of the manga, near the attack of the Headquarters and when the Akuma level 4 showed up, our adorable evil mustache man, Leverrier told Hevlaska she was a "kinslayer", that she had destroyed her own kin.

Was it mentioned how she killed them or why?

I recall as well that at Timothy's arch a level 4 akuma showed up. Weren't they rare and never existed one before? Why suddenly there were more?

In the spanish side of this fandom, long ago, a great fanfiction author said that it was obvious that the 14th was Allen and that he was going to steal the Earl's position. If anyone sees her, because she hasn't updated that much, ask her if she is not Hoshino or something. She guessed it last year, more or less in April.

Anyways, considering that Allen is "The destroyer of time" and that Kanda sees a clock, it might be possible that the loved person (if you are a fangirl of their pairing, love in a couple like way; if you are not a fangirl of that pairing, love in a friends like way) Allen might end killing will be Kanda.

But why does Kanda see lotus flowers everywhere? Do you have any theory about it? Is Alma trying to tell him something or is a side effect of being an experiment?

Although Cross was shot and presumed to be dead, his body was never found. There's a chance he might be alive. If he was alive, do you think he would show up afterwards in the upcoming chapters?

Also, if you have any theories about the latest chapter's late pages or the chapter overall it would be nice to hear them (I love theories <3).

And has anyone seen that robot that used to pop up every now and then at the beginning of the manga? I kind of miss that guy too.

My sincere apologies for all the grammatical horrors (awful language barriers) and the sheer amount of silliness

I go back and forth with my feelings on Lenalee. Sometimes I'm very happy with her, and other times she is os weak spirited it is hard not to be annoyed. I do try to keep in mind that she was orphaned, abducted by the order, held by force away from her only family, and made to accommodate the Innocence (which must have been scary, and she says the Boots hurt her)...so not having the strongest sense of self is understandable. But I really wish she was a stronger female character in such a male dominated cast.

But here's the thing re: Japan. They imply that the Earl and the akuma took over and flourished during the Edo period (roughly 1600 - late 1800), as the country was secluded from foreign trade during those 300 years and their presence would go unnoticed by the Order, etc. So how old is Kanda? They say he's 18, but is he really? Where did they get him from if he isn't 300 years old (and how old is Lavi for that matter. His memories imply that he's either very old, or has somehow absorbed the memories of the Bookmen before him..another unexplained Bookmen ability?)?

Thank you for nerding this out with me. :D I love nerding these things.

Oh my history is pretty terrible too.

I guess my point about Kanda and Japan is that wouldn't he have known about akuma if he had survived in Japan late 1800? At that point the country was supposedly overrun and only the strongest survive (Chomeske saying it would be very difficult for humans to get along less than a decade after he was created). So no one should have been surprised the Earl was there, or at least have gone to investigate sooner (or did they? They seemed to know the ark was there with the akuma plant when they sent Cross in). There are just a lot of things that don't seem to add up 100%, and I'm curious to see if and when she connects it all for us.

Who knows what and when did they learn it?!?!?! XD

I have so many questions about this story!

It is was absolutely a bloody time, and the perfect era to produce mass amounts of akuma. But look here:

http://www.onemanga.com/D.Gray-Man/77/04/

This leads me to believe that over the last few centuries (leading up to mid and late 1800), the Earl has been having a field day over in Japan, making it his base of operation. By 1850, there would be very few humans left in this alternate 19th century of D. Gray-man. I just find it quite a stretch that any of the Order could have come in for Kanda (roughly 1880, yes?) and not notice the activity, as it is heavily implied that by that point things were already well under the control of akuma. It wasn't something that burst out of control in the last decade, it had been going on for centuries under the blind eye of the Order (as I read it anyway).

I am dying to know if he was abducted, if he was found outside of Japan, if some part of the Order knew what was going on in Japan and decided to do nothing...

hehe, I meant the story of the series itself (the manga/anime)

Poor Hoshino must want her series to end since she's suffered all those minor injuries that halted the D.Gray-Man manga production. D:

For sure! The Order has done some really terrible things in secret, so really, Kanda and any other Japanese refugees were fair game for all sorts of nasty experiments (regardless of when they were rescued - before or after the akuma explosion).

This and many other things...we need to know! XD I so hope she tells us soon. I'd die if it all goes unexplained. At least it leaves lts of wiggle room for fanfic though, right?

It used to have this creepy darkness that's evaporated lately, it's sort of like she's gotten tired of her settings or influenced by other series that have a more modern feel. (Artificial humans? Futuristic outfits, etc.) I was actually surprised the other day when re-reading to see that Lenalee did wear a long dress in the earl chapters.

It has a gag-strip feel, and it's hard to take seriously. Even the dead thirds or whatnot aren't really dead (or well, at least Tokusa(?) isn't) and while it's sort of getting there with Allen-- we're feeling bad he's getting taken over by the 14th, it's not really building? Like, oh, he's possess-- ahahaha gag strip-- trying to be serious again-- lol gagstrip.

I'd have preferred a more serious arc treating Allen's 14th problem. :(

& It seems like she's fluffing it. I hope she really has a plot. My concern is that she doesn't. 8| Didn't she say her plots came to her while she was sleeping in the bath or something...

I want more of a Lavi backround as well. I didn't feel like the chapters about when he came to the Black Order were quite enough to be considered his "history" explanation.

...Then again, maybe I'm just in denial and always want to hope for the chance to learn something new about him >.> lol

maybe its just me but...

(Anonymous) 2009-12-03 04:45 am (UTC)(link)
i dont think this arc is actually going that fast. i mean i think i picked up a bit weridly, but other then that it feels like its moving at a pretty decent pace, like i know a lot of stuff is being revealed but its mostly about Kandas backstory, and that slight mention of the 14ths intentions(which i wanna believe isnt as evil as it seems >>;).And theres still a whole wide world of things to be explained, and maybe im being overly opptimistic, but i think Hoshino will go into them cuz this doesnt feel like the end, regardless of what that little magizine text said.XP And before in went on haitus it looked like it was going to go into Kanda's back story anyway,so its not that big a leap.

And if anything all the translations are slightly awkward(no offense to anyone who does them, just the ones ive read really kinda are)so that could atribute to it to.

and i was right,the earl and the 14th were totally banging before this whole thing 'ima kill you and take you place' thing went down. >>;

Dude, Disney can so traumatize some children...

Actually, I think think the Nostalgia Critic commented on that in a couple of his videos...

But yeah. MAKE ME CRY, HOSHINO!

[identity profile] kara-angitia.livejournal.com 2009-12-03 10:59 am (UTC)(link)
I think the manga is FAR from ending. The story is just fast paced at the moment because the Earl was forced to act by the 14th's "Good Morning." and like many people have said before Hoshino is still adjusting to a new schedule. Also, bare in mind we've been jerked around a lot by hiatuses and the like, I don't know about you but its upset my inner-clock a bit when following the story :P. I also remember A LOT of people thought the manga was coming to an end during the Ark Arc, and we all saw how that turned out :P

We still have so much to cover. The Bookman Clan(which Hoshino herself said were KEY to the plot of DGM) the Third Side of the war, The Heart, the actual reason for the 3 Days of Darkness, Central, what the Earl/14th/Whoever goals are(cos it's not so clear anymore), what Innocence and Dark Matter ACTUALLY ARE. SO SO MUCH.

It looks to me that Allen and Kanda will probably leave the Order which will take the manga in a whole new direction! A very interesting one!

*rp account for the fail*

I think what Leverier was stating is that Hevleska was a member of the Leverrier family, and by inserting Innocence into members of her family's bodies (like she was ordered to, to try and create exorcists) she killed them.

No idea about who Allen's going to kill at all.

Level 4s had never been known *previous* to the attack on HQ, but it makes sense that after the attack (AKA Timmothy's ark) a few more had appeared.

Cross *has* to show up again. My inner fangirl demands it. Plus he's just so damn central to the whole plot... If he were to just die and not come back, it would be pointless. Plus Komui said the amount of blood found was enough to kill a *human*, and as shown in the Ark ark (with Cross transforming back from being a Skull) the man is *probably* not human. Personally I think he's gone undercover as one of the Earl's skulls again. Possibly.

[identity profile] cattheterrible.livejournal.com 2009-12-03 05:32 pm (UTC)(link)
That makes me feel like it'll end up like the last Harry Potter book. :P "Allen Walker and the Extended Camping Trip."

The Kanda/Allen shippers have enough fodder already, lately. :'C

[identity profile] kara-angitia.livejournal.com 2009-12-03 05:40 pm (UTC)(link)
Kay, bare in mind that Bookman and Lavi are really interested in Allen so one of them(or even both) will probably tag along -_-;;

As for the shippers, each to their own. I'm not all that fussed so long as I get a good story.

[identity profile] cattheterrible.livejournal.com 2009-12-03 06:13 pm (UTC)(link)
Nah, the shippers are all good. I'm more bothered that Kanda and Allen are the only main characters we've seen much of lately. Well, Marie also got some spotlight.

I miss Lavi, Bookman, Lenalee, Miranda, Krory, Komui and Chaozii. And the Generals. I hope some of them DO tag along if Kanda and Allen bail on the Order. :3

In this particular situation, though... even though he's "dead," I keep expecting Cross to turn up and save the day. T^T

Also want to point out that Cross seems to not age.

(Anonymous) 2009-12-04 02:13 am (UTC)(link)
I don't think anyones gonna bail on the order. I know Allen turned into the 14th in front of Levvirre(sp >>;) and everyone but I think thats just going to make things more awkward and they're going to have a tighter lease on him and thats about it. (maybe its cuz i'm not a Yullen shipper but I don't think Allen and Kanda would actually be willing to run away together ^^;) And Kanda didn't seem drastically upset by the fact that the order kept Alma being alive from him,I think he actually did the opposite and he tried to hide any feelings he had about the situation when he told the noah that he didnt recognize Alma.

i just wish that DGM will not end soon.. i know it lost it's charm and all but still, the story is still interesting.

Who knows? Allen might just kill the earl and end up being the villain of the story?

[identity profile] andykg.livejournal.com 2009-12-04 12:16 pm (UTC)(link)
(if you are a fangirl of their pairing, love in a couple like way

Kanda finally got his revenge on Road for kissing Allen. XDD

(Sorry, I'm to sleepy right now to think seriously about thoeries... >.>)

Yeah, well... Now that you mention it: WE REALLY DO NOT KNOW MUCH OF ANYTHING. ;;

But, seriously. All we need to do is connect the dots. Analyze every single piece of information that Hoshino has released up til now and behold the resulting picture. 8D

I don't watch this comm so I'm slightly late to the discussion. Anyway.

With the "dead thirds or whatnot aren't really dead," Sherill (or Cyril, or whatever his name is supposed to be) told Tokusa that they weren't going to kill them (page here (http://www.onemanga.com/D.Gray-Man/187/43/)). As for the other thirds, which I'm guessing are Madarao and Tevak, were they supposed to be dead?
