I love Lavi, You Love Lavi but...

... does anyone think Lavi was Gary Stu'd a bit? Same as Lenalee was Mary Sue'd?

Don't get me wrong - I both love those characters immensely, but that's been bugging me for a bit. I mean, I love how powerful they are but...

It wasn't even symbolism. It was an event. There is a before, which is obviously preferred, as evidenced by the above posts, and then there is the after.

The instant her hair was burned off, she became a simpering, whiny brat, and she's a shame to the Rinali she was before she (almost) died in a blaze of glory.

I find that the loss of one's family, home, and hopes of a normal life would have a far greater impact in the fact that they were the original tragedy. Once you deal with something like that once, you become less sensitive to a repeat tragedy of the same nature. She was a human experiment, a fighter, a killer, and then the deaths of a few civilians supposedly annihilate her psyche? That's not really the way it works.

I'm sorry, but I have to disagree with that for personal experience, and what I've seen in several friends.

I won't go into more detail in a public community post, but you don't get less sensitive. Especially when it's death. Especially when you know you'll never see their face again...

You're not the only person in the world who ever had someone they love die. Not to sound bitchy, but it's slightly rude to assume that someone has no idea what they're talking about in relation to loss.

I think it's slightly rude to assume that it's a lot easier for everyone after they experience something similar to it before, as you said before, and so I countered it with a reason. I'm not saying that I'm the only person who has experienced loss, and I'd do anything to go back in time and change things, but that's impossible. Just because you might see someone die young doesn't mean it's any more numbing. Some people tune it out, yes; many people, no.

I'm going to step in here and point out something. I mean no disrespect and I will not say why I'm stepping in, in public. Everyone deals with things differently, everyone recovers at a different rate. Some people will shove things inside while others will break. You can't apply a template to a set of characters or people and expect them to all act the same.

Linali feels everyone she knows is her world, her reason to fight. I agree with the above comments by draughts on that subject. Frankly I see her as showing humanity, and growing beyond what we see in the flashbacks. If you noticed before, Linali was a bit colder about things and has grown from that.

Take a good look at the other characters, everyone is running themselves into the ground. War will wear you down, even being on the sidelines watching your family go to their possible deaths will drive you nuts. Komui and the science team are an example of that. We're starting to see the visible wearing on him because of Linali's growth. He probably fears losing her or sending his 'family' to their deaths.

Allen is running himself to the bone, despite his self doubts and overwhelming concerns about Mana. We'll see him start to crumble at some point.

Rabi is questioning his motives and choices, yet still fighting even without his hammer. Everyone is having their problems, Linali's just shined so strongly because of how long she's been unable to do things. Like the BACK, the legs take a while to heal. So tl; dr everyone handles things differently and not everyone goes emotionally dead when it comes to repeated tragedy.

I somewhat agree with you, apart from the detail that other characters do not suffer a major set back as Lenalee. Personally, I consider Allen's condition when he lost his Innocence to be parallel to Lenalee's case of leg injury and poor synchro with the Innocence. But between the both of them, Allen recuperated faster and I think that's when most fans draw the line that Allen is strong while Lenalee is weak. That, and there was a couple of times during the Noah Ark Arc, when she needs the encouragement and reassureance from both Lavi and Allen to allevate her worries.

In this case, even Lenalee admits in the manga that she didn't realise that she was so weak and scared (nevermind that she have been having those horrifying dreams). Unfortunately, some people tend to see that as being weak, but I believe that's the characteristic that makes her more humane and realistic. In the earlier parts of the story, she didn't have to face all these problems, therefore I can seeing her be more worry-free.

All that aside, I'm greatly anticipating the moment when Allen and Lavi suffers from loyalty issues as I want to see how they are going to deal with it and how it affects the other Exorcists XD Can I say I'm dying to see one of them abandon the Order at some point and making the situation more chaotic than it already is? At this point, losing an Exorcist (or two) will certainly be detrimental to the Order... Hoshino, please let it be Lavi

On the other hand, she lost her hair when it was burned off by atmospheric friction as she defeated an incredibly strong opponent and saved the Exorcists on Anita's ship. That's a pretty badass haircut. :)
