I love Lavi, You Love Lavi but...

... does anyone think Lavi was Gary Stu'd a bit? Same as Lenalee was Mary Sue'd?

Don't get me wrong - I both love those characters immensely, but that's been bugging me for a bit. I mean, I love how powerful they are but...

Well, what do you guys think?

Note: This is brought to you by general inquiry of others thoughts, not Wank-anonymous.

Oh and totally irrelevant but is it worth spending the money for a stupid paid account so I can add me some DGM icons as I can't delete what I have now (I mean, Bjork and P.Diddy can never leave EVAR!!!). Has anyone done something like this?

Mind if I join in the discussion :P

I agree wholeheartedly with you that it's not the fault of the character that she receives so much attention from the guys. In fact, I find it quite reasonable that given the circumstances that she's practically the only girl that they come into contact with, naturally, they'll be more protective over her and adore her like a little sister. (I admit I was giggling when one of the fans ask the author if the guys in the Order have girlfriends and wives, and Hoshino answered they were a bunch of poor bachelors... and why? Too busy apparently why Thank you Komui :P)

Though, while she didn't ask for the attention and fawning, personally, as a reader, I still find it somewhat annoying. In some way, all the protection and coddling does nothing to her character except make her "seem" weaker. That doesn't necessarily means she's weak but it makes me feel that way and I think that's the setback of it. I mean, even during the smallest of problems, they jump on and help her immediately. (Take chapter 159, I consider Lavi, Kanda and Bookman to have more severe inflictions compared to her and yet, when she had that kitty voice, you see Allen holding her hand, Johnny tapping her on the shoulder, Reever sort-of overreacting and so forth.) Even if she's supposingly strong, I can't help but think everyone babies her.

Therefore, like you said, it's not the fault of the character but rather how the author prefers to treat her and write the interactions.

Also, I won't consider her to be a Mary-sue even if she does have some Sue-ish attributes. And even that, it would depend on how we define Mary-Sue in the first place and besides, IMO, most characters (especially main character) would have some Sue-ish qualities as the author tends to focus and dump all sorts of abilities that she otherwise would not confer to some more minor characters. But in this, it really depends on the situation :3

PS: Sorry for the completely unsuitable icon, but that's the only DGM icon I have at the moment :P
